I can almost hear the conversation....
Man: "God, how did you create all this stuff?"
God: "Create? I learned to instigate it, and to some extent, to guide it, but the results are hard to accurately predict."
I found the dialogue over at Souby's...and I added the names.
It seems like it would fit to me.

I vaguely remember the context, but I think the casting director wasn't pitching for the supreme being at the time.
I guess your way is a good explanation for evolution.
Ah Souby, I see it as an explanation for free will. I liked the "feel" of it.
